Proven Impact

UF College of Vet Medicine
Background

The two large vaneaxial supply fans (70,000 cfm & 125 Hp each, 8.6 in.w.c. design static pressure) in the main air handler at the UF Veterinary Medicine building had been problematic for several years, due to both the age of the fans and the logistics of keeping the AHU off-line to make repairs.

The solution was to retrofit a FANWALL instead of the vaneaxial fans. Its modular design and customizable size made it easy to assemble in the supply fan plenum and fit the air handler's existing internal dimensions by being built in two sections.

Arlington Tower DMR Nortek
Background

Arlington Tower, located in Arlington, VA, and home to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), is a 19-story office building with more than 398,000 square feet of leasable space. The speed and ease of installation, in occupied office space, led to a successful first phase of retrofits. This set the stage for Nortek Air Solutions Mammoth V-Cube Slims to be the units of choice on all remaining floors.

Challenge: The 38-year-old building was due for an HVAC upgrade beginning in late 2018.

Background

Facilities that store a large number of musical instruments need precise humidity control. Many instruments, including string instruments, are made of thin wood which are easily affected by temperature and humidity. This can be a challenge when retrofitting older air handling units that, in many cases, are using outdated technology that is neither precise nor energy efficient.

The scope of this project included the replacement of six units and the addition of one new unit, but with the strict requirement that the replacement units would fit on the existing equipment pads and match up to existing duct and piping arrangements.

Challenge: Replace old multizone Air Handling Units with VAV Air Handling Units and low energy humidifiers for tight humidity control.
